District Farran

There is little to no structure or leadership within the walls of Farran District aside from the simple rule that the strong rule over the weak with an iron fist.


There is little to no structure or leadership within the walls of Farran District aside from the simple rule that the strong rule over the weak with an iron fist.

If there were to be a single figurehead for Farran, then it would have to be Tiarain Mung, distant cousin to Cataonus Mung of District Sheran. This is due to the fact that his personal estate is the largest amongst the Farran "nobility". Tiarain himself has no real political or military power barring what Mung requires to maintain his affluent position within Farran society through a mixture of fear and intimidation.


The customs of Farran have been openly borrowed from the other Districts due to their "open gate" policy - anyone is able to enter the District, provided they can pay the pre-requisite gate-tolls to do so. The proceeds of the now infamous gate-tolls go to lining the coffers of the rich nobility whilst the vast unprivileged populace of Farran live in relative squalor and only the strong or those willing to work exceptionally hard can eke out a living above the common rabble.

Mass starvation and plagues are common amongst the underclass of Farran, easily killing vast swathes of the population, allowing for the limited resources that are available to be redistributed to the survivors. Such ravaging plagues are typically seen as a natural population control by the nobility who can afford to keep their distance of the slums and whom can afford the expensive medications and medical care should they too fall into the clutches of the disease themselves.


The economy of Farran derives most of its material wealth from the near constant stream of refugees, bounty hunters and Mech pilots wanting to carve out a small empire within the "free" Farran District.

What little work that does go on behind the walls are usually scrap metal reclamation and trading on of such materials. Very little actual mining goes on following the recent over exploitation of the mineral reserves surrounding the District, leaving vast tracts of underground mines that were once prosperous to become warrens for the poor underclass.

The old mines have been repurposed as storage spaces, low cost housing and subterranean factory complexes.

In addition, they are also used as underground silos, housing the Districts large stockpile of cruise missiles and inter-District ordnance.

Law Enforcement

The laws of Farran were left open to interpretation by the few "enforcement officials" whom are little more than thuggish bounty hunters and raiders paid by the nobility to hunt and kill any who they see as dissidents and malcontents. Although such acts of violence are common place, the enforcement officials are kept in line through the use of withdrawal of pay and in extreme cases, other enforcement officials being sent to hunt down and track errant "officials" in officially sanctioned public executions.

Should a criminal manage to shake off the enforcers, they are often ratted out in the hopes of payment in credit, or turned in dead by those with the guts to confront the "criminals" and exact vigilante justice - such over sights are often overlooked by the enforcers whom then earn the credit for the killing themselves and the reward.

Industrial Infrastructure

What little industrial infrastructure remains is often given over to whoever is able and willing to pay the most for the privilege of the utilising the remaining surviving industrial units. The industrial output of Farran is of little consequence to the nobility, and only those actually paying the rent for the workshops and factory spaces care about their productivity to any real degree.

Opening of the Flood Gates

Farran's infamous toll gates allow over several thousand traders, refugees and traveling merchants to enter the District every month.

Once within the armoured walls, they are left to fend for themselves - some are unlucky and are preyed upon by raiders within the city walls. Others are taken for all their worth in the numerous underground gambling dens and watering holes.

The lawlessness of the District is a double edged sword, because although petty criminals run rife, vast trading empires have also taken root within the District as there is no formal level of taxation - traders can charge as much as they please and not have to pay a single Credit to anyone. This allows them to stay competitive with other trading houses on prices, and many have grown into house-hold names in their own rights, including Narmo's Metals, Blendo Bond Glues and numerous other companies.

The Dax Dynasty

The Dax family are perhaps one of the most infamous families of the District. They have tendrils everywhere, from the trading floors and thriving markets to the underground gambling dens.

They run over half the illicit gambling dens and all the food traders are paying "tributes" to them in the form of payments for "protection."

The official head of the Dax family is Lucan Dax, although it is an open secret that it is his son, Dallas that is really pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Aside from Lucan and Dallas, the family currently numbers over a hundred when including all the counsins and extended family.

Global reserves of precious resources such as common metals, diamonds, gold and other valuable commodities become drained. Commodity prices skyrocket, forcing governments to stock pile the remaining reserves and issue government bonds for civilian supplies.

Several prospective companies launch exploratory probes to start mining operations on the moon and later Mars. The first companies eventually fail in their ventures, although it does path the way for many of the key technologies needed for future space travel.

The Resource Crisis EruptsY2029

Faced with dwindling natural resources, nation turns upon nation and vast areas erupt into bloodshed as armies are unleashed against neighbors in a bid to secure the last remaining natural resources.

Widespread famine devastates the remaining survivors, and nuclear weapons are used against overly aggressive and oppressive nations.

War erupts, killing vast swaythes of humanity.

Construction Begins On The Generational ShipsY2045

Construction begins on the first of several multiple generation ships intended to allow mankind to colonise other planets. Several key technologies are incorporated into the Generational Ships which are taken directly from the 1st generation of Mechs such as anti-grav plating, efficient power generation, multi-fuel generators and carbon-scrubber technology.

Sheran Colony EstablishedY4130

The District of Sheran is established to meet local trade agreements and enforce the "fair" trading between everyone involved.

Location taxation of transactions begins a short while later, ensuring a steady stream of incoming for the self-imposed rulership of Sheran.

The short rein of the monarch, Governess Tegari, comes to an end. Many suspect murder but nothing can be proven.

Monarch Regallliar AscendsY4131.014

Monarch Regallliar, a distant cousin of the previous Monarch, ascends. Days after ascending, Farran dissidents begin calling for his removal after a series of brutal reprisals whilst they begin calling for his removal. Growing raider attacks on the outskirts of District Raglor begin but retribution is slow in coming.

Regalliar orders a large number of his political opponents murdered. He hires several hit squads to attack and kill his opponents in a matter of a few hours.

Monarch Regallliar quickly loses the throne due to his sheer inability to deal with the Farran dissidents. He is removed from office only 20 days in power.

The term "to do a Regallliar" is coined in common parlance for someone who is inept in their office or job.

Political and civil unrest reigns for several weeks whilst a suitable replacement is verified.

Three days after being removed from office, Regallliar is executed after being captured by Farran infiltrators. Retribution is sought by Raglor, but swiftly forgotten about.

Battle of Hook BayY4131.063

A small staging point for District Farran is attacked by Raglorian navy forces. The makeshift base is destroyed in the opening barrage, leaving the Farran forces unable to re-deploy.

Callixis SettledY4132

A small mining settlement experiences rapid growth due to it be situated at the cross roads of seven great trading routes between the more prosperous Districts.

Callixis expands rapidly, not only because it's location is ideal for traders to rest at, but Callixis begins to imply a small tithe on all goods passing through which helps feed the growth.

Eventually, most traders find alternative, more direct trading routes, but by then District Callixis is firmly established in its own right and becomes a supply and trading hub itself.

Hooorain ColonisedY4133

Several hundred colonists settle in the Hooorain valley after being exiled from Oran.

They quickly prosper due to the rich natural resources found there. They manage to acquire several powerful shield generators from Raglor.

District Frandor begins development work on the Synths.

Farran District first institutes their infamous gate-tolls, to immediate effect of raising massive sums of credits for the local economy. Trade plummets for the next few years as a direct result.

An Explorator team from Callixis finds an extensive ore seam. Salvage teams from both Prain and Farran are spotted battling over the seam whilst Callixis arranges for a Salvage team of their own to secure the seam by force if nessecary.

When the Callixisian team arrives eighteen days later, the ore seam is nearly depleted by Farran and Prain salvage teams.

An enigmatic leader rises amongst the populace of Sheran, known as Father Dawnson. The Dawnson Cult begins to grow in size as word spreads about the teachings of the Father.
