Since we started developing the game, the cards themselves have undergone a number of revisions, amendments and changes to make it through to the final versions you see here.
The New Population System
Since we started, we've been looking at ways to create a believable world, we wanted to give you guys all the little details about the settlements and Districts populating the Techniconica world.
At the same time, we wanted the settlements themselves to have "organic" growth - something we couldn't really do without having an more realistic population simulation that could move around the world. To this end, we spent a few days creating a sub-system to track the population of Technniconica at any given time which runs around the clock, tracking the populace as they move around, marry, have children and ultimately die.
To do that, our subsystem tracked each and every individual on Techniconica, year to year, assigning new babies a random sex and tracked their movements as settlements were established and people flocked to them and then have children.
The system is rather simple - each year we iterated over every alive human on Techniconica and then randomly "roll" for their chances of survival (some years are certainly more lethal than others - particular during times of plagues & war ;-)). If there were of the correct age and gender, they may also spawn children, which were also tracked in the same way. We built the system to be as simple as possible (to be easily computed) but granular enough to allow us to see where people are going.
This allowed us to build up a plethora of statistics as well as track individuals through their life journeys and will be making that data available as we build the tools to extract and exploit it all this data.
